Biography (read more)
Claudin de Sermisy (c. 1490 – 13 October 1562) was a French composer of the Renaissance, active for most of his career at the French royal chapel. He accompanied Francis I to Italy in 1515 and took part in the musical festivities of the Field of the Cloth of Gold in 1520. From 1532 he served as sous-maître of the royal chapel and held a canonry at the Sainte-Chapelle, where he was later buried.
Alongside Clément Janequin, Sermisy was one of the two most renowned composers of French chansons in the early 16th century, and he was also a significant composer of sacred music.
