Raphaël Feuillâtre was born in 1996 in Djibouti and raised in Cholet, in western France, where his interest in music was sparked after he was given a toy plastic guitar at age seven. He enrolled at the Cholet Conservatoire at nine, studying with Hacène Addadi, then continued with Michel Grizard at the Conservatoire de Nantes before entering the Conservatoire de Paris (CNSMDP), where his teachers included Roland Dyens and Tristan Manoukian. He won the 2017 José Tomás Villa de Petrer International Guitar Competition in Spain and, in 2018, first prize at the Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition. In September 2022 he signed with Deutsche Grammophon, becoming the first guitarist in many years to join the Yellow Label, releasing his debut album Visages baroques in March 2023 and Spanish Serenades in June 2025. Feuillâtre’s signing to Deutsche Grammophon restored the classical guitar to a major label’s roster after a long absence, drawing renewed critical and popular attention to the instrument. His self-transcribed programs of French and Italian Baroque keyboard music by Rameau, Forqueray, Royer, and Duphly have expanded the guitar’s Baroque repertoire and been praised for a harpsichord-like clarity of line rarely achieved on the instrument.
