Biography (read more)
Bruno Canino was born in Naples on 30 December 1935, studied piano with Vincenzo Vitale and then piano and composition in Milan under Calace and Bettinelli, and took prizes at the Busoni competition in 1956 and 1958 and at Darmstadt in 1960. For decades he formed a duo with Antonio Ballista and served as the partner of choice for Perlman, Accardo and Ughi.
Canino is Italy’s great musical polymath at the keyboard: a new-music pioneer who premiered Berio and Bussotti, a harpsichordist, and above all a chamber partner whose discography with violinists spans the whole literature. His rows in this catalogue are the accompanist’s art in its Italian form — supple, witty, and never anonymous.
