Alexandre Tansman (1897–1986) was a Polish-born composer, pianist and conductor who became a naturalized French citizen in 1938. An early representative of neoclassicism associated with the École de Paris, he was internationally recognized during his lifetime and maintained friendships with figures including Igor Stravinsky and Charlie Chaplin, whom he met while in Hollywood during the Second World War.
Tansman contributed several important works to the 20th-century classical guitar repertoire, encouraged in part by his friendship with Andrés Segovia, and his guitar suites remain part of the standard concert repertoire for the instrument.
