Bernarda Fink was born on 29 August 1955 in Buenos Aires to Slovene parents who had emigrated from Yugoslavia. She trained at the Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón and won first prize at the 1985 Nuevas Voces Líricas competition, after which she moved to Europe to build her career.
A mezzo-soprano especially admired in Baroque and Classical repertoire, Fink has performed with the Vienna and London Philharmonics under conductors including Nikolaus Harnoncourt and John Eliot Gardiner, and appeared at Carnegie Hall, the Concertgebouw, and the Salzburg Festival. She has recorded extensively for Harmonia Mundi and Hyperion and received Austria’s Decoration for Science and Art in 2005.
