Biography (read more)
Wulfin Lieske is a German guitarist whose career spans classical repertoire and free improvisation. In his own words, his music combines a constant grounding in the classical repertoire with “free improvisation expanding in ever-widening circles,” and contemporary chamber-music collaborations that have included piano, Persian tombak, didgeridoo and Mongolian overtone singing.
Lieske performs on “La Leona,” the 1856 guitar built in Seville by Antonio de Torres — one of the most celebrated surviving instruments by the maker who defined the modern classical guitar. His forthcoming solo recording, built around this guitar, pairs Renaissance ricercari by Francesco da Milano with Bach’s Partita in D minor (including the Ciaccona) alongside his own composition In Luce.
