Biography (read more)

Thomas Crecquillon (born c. 1505, probably in the Low Countries – died probably early 1557, likely at Béthune) was a Franco-Flemish composer of the Renaissance, a priest, and a member of Emperor Charles V’s chapel. No portrait of him is known to survive.

One of the most widely printed composers of his day through the presses of Phalèse and Susato, Crecquillon was known for smooth, imitative polyphony that helped prefigure the style later associated with Palestrina.
