Anne-Sophie Mutter (born June 29, 1963) is a German violinist who began violin studies after early piano lessons, training with Erna Honigberger and Aida Stucki at the Winterthur Conservatory. A prodigy, she won a national youth music prize at age six and made her recital debut at 13 at the Lucerne Festival, followed the same year by an appearance with the Berlin Philharmonic. Herbert von Karajan championed her early career, producing her first recording when she was 15, and she has since built an international solo career spanning the core concerto repertoire and extensive contemporary commissions. In 2008 she established the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation to support young string players.

Mutter is regarded as one of the leading violinists of her generation, distinguished for commissioning and championing new works from composers including John Williams, André Previn, and Sofia Gubaidulina, and for sustaining a decades-long international solo career after being launched by Karajan as a teenager.
