Bruce (Xiaoyu) Liu (born May 8, 1997, in Paris to Chinese parents from Beijing, raised in Montreal) is a Canadian pianist. He began piano at age eight, later graduating from the Montreal Conservatory of Music under Richard Raymond and continuing studies with Dang Thai Son at the Université de Montréal. In October 2021 he won the First Prize at the XVIII International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, having scored the highest marks in the first three stages. The win led to an exclusive recording contract with Deutsche Grammophon in 2022 and a busy international concert schedule with major orchestras.
Liu’s 2021 Chopin Competition victory established him as one of the leading pianists of his generation, and his debut Deutsche Grammophon recital album was praised as among the most distinguished Chopin recordings of recent years.
