Stanley Myers was born on 6 October 1930 and died on 9 November 1993. He was an English composer and conductor who scored over sixty films and television series, working closely with directors including Nicolas Roeg, Jerzy Skolimowski, and Volker Schlondorff. He was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Film Music for “Wish You Were Here” (1987) and was an early collaborator with and mentor of composer Hans Zimmer.
Myers is best remembered for his guitar piece “Cavatina”, originally composed for the 1970 film “The Walking Stick” and later used as the main theme of “The Deer Hunter” (1978), which brought the piece worldwide fame and made it a cornerstone of the classical and popular guitar repertoire.
