Sonya Yoncheva (born 25 December 1981 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria) is a Bulgarian-Swiss soprano. She studied piano and voice in Plovdiv before continuing vocal studies with Danielle Borst at the Geneva Conservatory, graduating in 2009, and took part in William Christie’s “Jardin des Voix” academy in 2007. She won the female first prize at the 2010 Operalia competition and has since become a regular at the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House, La Scala, and the Vienna State Opera.

Known for a warm, richly colored voice spanning Baroque, bel canto, and verismo repertoire, Yoncheva was named Singer of the Year at the 2021 Opus Klassik awards. She has also expanded into producing through her own company, SY11, reflecting a broader engagement with the culture surrounding opera beyond performance.
