Biography (read more)
Michel Dalberto was born in Paris on 2 June 1955 into a family without musicians, began at three and a half, and at twelve was brought to Vlado Perlemuter — Cortot’s favourite pupil — whose Conservatoire class he joined in 1969 for nine years. The Clara Haskil Prize came in 1975 and first prize at Leeds in 1978; for fifteen years he directed the academy-festival of Les Arcs.
Dalberto is the only pianist to have recorded Schubert’s complete piano works, an undertaking of decades, and his Fauré and Debussy carry the Perlemuter-Cortot line into the present. In this catalogue he represents the French school’s Schubert — an idiom of clarity and understatement that sits tellingly beside the Viennese accounts.
