Mao Fujita was born on 28 November 1998 in Japan and began piano at age three, studying with Yuka and Gen Matsuyama from age nine before attending Tokyo College of Music as a scholarship student. He is currently pursuing a Konzertexamen at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin.
Fujita rose to international prominence after winning the Rosario Marciano International Piano Competition (2013) and the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition (2017), and taking Second Prize and the Silver Medal at the 2019 Tchaikovsky Competition. He has released a series of acclaimed recordings, including a complete Mozart piano sonata cycle, on Naxos and Sony Classical.
