Laura Lootens was born in 1999 in Marktoberdorf, Germany, and holds German-Belgian nationality. She began guitar at age eight and studied from age fourteen at the Munich University of Music and Theater under Franz Halász, completing bachelor’s, master’s, and ‘Excellence in Performance’ programs there; she made her orchestral debut at fifteen performing Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez.

Lootens won first prize at the German youth competition Jugend musiziert (2015) and first prize at the Andrés Segovia International Guitar Competition in 2022, after taking third prize there in 2018 as its youngest-ever finalist; she also received the German Music Competition scholarship (2019) and the Leonhard und Ida Wolf Memorial Prize for Music (2023). She signed to the Naïve label and her 2023 debut album features her own arrangements of Albéniz piano works for solo guitar, including the Suite Española.
