Jorge Caballero is a Peruvian classical guitarist and composer born in Lima, where he began guitar studies at age ten at the National Conservatory of Music with Eleodoro Mori and later Óscar Zamora. At nineteen he became the only guitarist ever to win First Prize at the Walter W. Naumburg International Competition in New York, and he holds further honours from the Luis Sigall, Tokyo and Alhambra competitions.

Caballero is especially known for his own transcriptions of large-scale orchestral and piano works for solo guitar, including Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, Dvořák’s New World Symphony, and Debussy’s Children’s Corner. The New York Times has called him “a masterly guitarist” with “chameleonic timbres.” He has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the Library of Congress, collaborated with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, and teaches at the University of Toronto and Kean University.
