Behzod Abduraimov was born on 11 September 1990 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and began the piano at five at the Uspensky State Central Lyceum, studying with Tamara Popovich. He continued his training in the United States with Stanislav Ioudenitch at Park University’s International Center for Music in Missouri. In 2009, at eighteen, he won first prize at the London International Piano Competition, which launched his international career. He is based in Kansas City, where he is associated with the International Center for Music as artist in residence.

His debut recording for Decca, pairing Prokofiev’s Sixth Sonata with Saint-Saens and Liszt, was widely praised and won an ECHO Klassik award. He has since appeared as soloist with orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. His repertoire centres on Russian romantic and twentieth-century music, especially Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky, alongside Liszt and Chopin. The Independent described him as the most perfectly accomplished pianist of his generation.
