Biography (read more)
Jean-Marc Luisada was born in Bizerte, Tunisia, on 3 June 1958, began at six, and entered the Paris Conservatoire at sixteen under Dominique Merlet and Marcel Ciampi, with later study under Nikita Magaloff and Paul Badura-Skoda. Fifth prize at the 1985 Chopin Competition in Warsaw launched an international career and an exclusive RCA contract.
Luisada carries the French-romantic Chopin line — Ciampi to Cortot’s world, Magaloff to the Slavic one — into the present: his mazurkas and waltzes for RCA are prized for a rubato that risks sentiment and earns it. Beside the structural and the virtuoso schools already in this catalogue, his is the reading that dances.
