Tears for Fears is an English pop-rock duo formed by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith in Bath, England, whose songwriting was influenced by primal therapy concepts. Their albums The Hurting (1983) and Songs from the Big Chair (1985) produced international hits including “Mad World,” “Shout,” and “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” before the group split in 1991 and later reunited, releasing The Tipping Point in 2022.

Regarded as leaders of the 1980s synth-pop and Second British Invasion movements, the duo received the Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Song Collection in 2021 in recognition of their era-defining catalogue.
