Sting (Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner) is an English musician, singer-songwriter, and actor best known as the bassist, lead vocalist, and principal songwriter of the rock band the Police (1977–1984, with later reunions). He launched a solo career in 1985 with The Dream of the Blue Turtles, blending rock with jazz, reggae, classical, and worldbeat influences across albums such as Ten Summoner’s Tales (1993) and Brand New Day (1999).

With over 100 million records sold and 17 Grammy Awards, Sting helped define new wave and pop-rock songwriting from the late 1970s onward and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003 (with the Police).
