Michael Sembello (born April 17, 1954, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer who began his career as a session guitarist for Stevie Wonder in the mid-1970s. He co-wrote and recorded “Maniac,” the chart-topping single from the 1983 Flashdance soundtrack, and also wrote “Carousel” for Michael Jackson’s Thriller album and “Mirror, Mirror” for Diana Ross.

“Maniac” became one of the defining pop-rock hits of the early MTV era, earning Sembello an Academy Award nomination and helping the Flashdance soundtrack win a Grammy Award.
