Miah Persson was born in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, on 27 May 1969. She studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and at the University College of Opera there, and began her career with the Royal Swedish Opera. From the late 1990s she built an international reputation, appearing at Glyndebourne, the Metropolitan Opera, the Vienna State Opera, La Scala and the Salzburg Festival. She is also a frequent guest with leading orchestras and in recital.
Persson’s Mozart roles — Susanna, Fiordiligi, Zerlina and Despina — have been central to her career, and her Fiordiligi in the 2006 Glyndebourne production of Così fan tutte was widely praised and released on video. She is also admired in Strauss, notably as Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier. Her concert and Lieder work includes recordings of Swedish song and of Mozart concert arias. Reviewers have consistently singled out the clarity, agility and evenness of her lyric soprano.
