Lukáš Vondráček was born in 1986 and showed prodigious talent from early childhood, giving his debut concert at age four and touring internationally by age ten. He studied with Andrzej Jasiński at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music, with Peter Barcaba at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, with Rudolf Bernatik at the University of Ostrava, and earned an Artist Diploma with Honors at the New England Conservatory under Hung-Kuan Chen. His Czech Philharmonic debut at fifteen, under Vladimir Ashkenazy, drew the remark that “such a pianist is born once in thirty years.”

Vondráček’s career was decisively boosted by winning first prize at the 2016 Queen Elisabeth Competition, making him the first Czech musician to win that prize. He also won the Hilton Head International Piano Competition (2010) and a Jury Discretionary Award at the Van Cliburn Competition (2009). He performs regularly with major orchestras including the Chicago, London, and Berlin symphonies, and has undertaken a recording project of the complete Rachmaninoff piano concertos with the Prague Symphony Orchestra.
