Biography (read more)

Thomas Langlois is a Belgian lutenist and theorbist born in Ghent, where he studied Renaissance lute and theorbo at the Royal Conservatory with Wim Maeseele and music theory with Marc Masson. From 2023 to 2025 he completed further studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland, working on Baroque lute and Baroque guitar with Peter Croton and basso continuo with Julian Behr, and received the Walter und Corina Christen-Marchal-Stiftung prize for the best final recital of that graduating year. He has performed with ensembles including Bach+, Musica Gloria, Il Gardellino, Les Goûts Authentiques, Ex Tempore, and Ensemble Delta, and given solo recitals for the English Lute Society in London and the Deutsche Lautengesellschaft. In 2023 Belgian public broadcaster KLARA selected him as one of its ten “Twintigers” (up-and-coming twentysomething artists), and since 2025 he has been artist in residence for SWUK Vlaanderen. He teaches lute and historical performance practice at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles. No Wikipedia article exists for him; his official artist site is linked as the primary source.

Still early in his career, Langlois has already been singled out by Belgian public radio as one of the country’s most promising young musicians and holds an artist residency with SWUK Vlaanderen. His YouTube channel, devoted largely to intimate voice-and-theorbo and solo lute repertoire spanning Purcell, Holborne, Strozzi, Kapsberger, and Vivaldi arrangements, has carried historically informed early-music miniatures to a wide online audience, while his teaching posts at the Brussels conservatories extend his influence to the next generation of Belgian lutenists.
