Kotaro Oshio is a Japanese fingerstyle acoustic guitar composer-performer born in Suita, Osaka, who released his first independent record in 1999 and made his major-label debut with Starting Point (2002) on Sony Music Japan. His playing style incorporates percussive fingerpicking, tap harmonics, and a distinctive ‘nail attack’ strumming technique influenced by Michael Hedges.

Oshio is regarded as one of Japan’s leading acoustic guitar virtuosos, having performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival alongside B.B. King, and his original compositions have helped popularize instrumental fingerstyle guitar in Japan and internationally.
