Jerry Reed Hubbard (March 20, 1937 – August 31, 2008) was an American country singer, guitarist, songwriter, and actor celebrated for his innovative fingerstyle guitar technique known as “the claw.” Beyond his recording career, he starred in films including the Smokey and the Bandit series alongside Burt Reynolds.

Reed’s guitar innovation influenced generations of players, and hits like “Amos Moses,” “When You’re Hot, You’re Hot,” and “East Bound and Down” made him a country-music and pop-culture fixture; he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2017.
