Ferdinand Ignaz Hinterleithner was born around 1659 in Neuberg an der Mürz. He was an Austrian official, lutenist and composer of the Baroque. His main occupation was as an official of the Vienna court accounting office. Little is documented about his life beyond statements in the dedication of his printed collection. He died on 2 December 1710 in Vienna.
Individual works from his 1699 print are found in libraries including Kremsmünster and Klosterneuburg. His suites have been recorded: seven for lute and two viols by Lutz Kirchhof and the Liuto Concertato Ensemble (2008), and a further suite on the 2013 album Saint Amour. A minuet of his was published in Hubert Zanoskar’s 1955 anthology Gitarrenspiel alter Meister, and Adolf Koczirz published on his lute music in 1918.
