Biography (read more)
Cole Albert Porter (1891–1964) was an American composer and songwriter. Born in Peru, Indiana, he studied at Yale and Harvard before establishing himself as one of the leading voices of the American popular song. Many of his songs became standards, prized for their witty, urbane lyrics, and many of his scores found success on Broadway and in Hollywood films.
Porter’s songs, including “Night and Day,” have become jazz standards frequently arranged for solo guitar, following in the tradition of guitarists such as Joe Pass who built extensive jazz-guitar arrangements of his catalogue.
