Carlo Domeniconi (born 1947 in Cesena, Italy) is an Italian guitarist and composer. He received his first guitar lessons in 1960 from Carmen Lenzi Mozzani, granddaughter of the noted guitarist and luthier Luigi Mozzani, and later earned his diploma from the Rossini Conservatory in Pesaro. He went on to study composition at the Berlin Hochschule für Musik under Heinz Friedrich Hartig, and after graduating in 1969 took up a teaching post in Berlin, where he remained until 1992. Domeniconi is still active as a composer and performer.

Domeniconi’s music is distinguished by its openness to multicultural influences, drawing on Turkish, Indian, Brazilian, and other traditions alongside Western classical technique. His best-known work, the suite “Koyunbaba,” Op. 19, is named for a remote and legend-steeped region of southwestern Turkey and uses a distinctive scordatura tuning inspired by Turkish folk music. Since its composition, “Koyunbaba” has become one of the most performed and recorded works in the modern classical guitar repertoire, prized for its hypnotic, modal character.
