Augustin Hadelich (born 4 April 1984 in Cecina, Tuscany, Italy) is an Italian-German-American violinist. Born to German parents on a farm in rural Tuscany, he began violin studies at age five with his father, an agriculturalist and amateur cellist, and took occasional lessons and masterclasses from touring violinists including Uto Ughi and Norbert Brainin. After recovering from severe injuries sustained in a 1999 farm fire, he studied at the Juilliard School with Joel Smirnoff, graduating with an artist diploma in 2007, and became a U.S. citizen in 2014.

Hadelich rose to international prominence after winning the gold medal at the 2006 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, and went on to win a 2016 Grammy Award for Best Classical Instrumental Solo for his recording of Dutilleux’s violin concerto L’arbre des songes. Named Musical America’s Instrumentalist of the Year in 2018 and appointed to the Yale School of Music faculty in 2021, he is known for a wide-ranging repertoire spanning core Romantic concertos, champion performances of contemporary works, and elegant recital transcriptions such as Kreisler’s arrangement of Dvořák’s Humoresque.
