Antonio Malinconico was born in 1979 in St. Gallen, Switzerland, to a family with roots in the hinterland of Naples. He completed five years of guitar studies at the Zurich University of the Arts in 2005, graduating with honours. Travels through Central and South America and the Middle East exposed him to tango and South American folk styles, which broadened his musical outlook.

Since 2009 Malinconico has toured Switzerland, Germany and Austria with his trio “Antonio Malinconico e Amici,” and following his solo album Vamos al Sur he performed concerts in Switzerland, Germany, and Argentina. Since 2014 he has contributed to the Night of NylonGuitars concert series across Germany.
