Aleksandra Sergeevna Dovgan was born on 1 July 2007 in Russia to a family of musicians, both of her parents being pianists. She began lessons at the age of four and entered the Central Music School of the Moscow Conservatory, where she studied with Mira Marchenko. She won the Astana Piano Passion competition in 2016 and the Vladimir Krainev International Competition for Young Pianists in 2018. Her early appearances at major European venues brought her international attention while still in her early teens.

Dovgan has been publicly championed by Grigory Sokolov, who described her playing as a rare instance of complete musical maturity in a young performer. She has appeared at the Verbier Festival, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Salzburg Festival and other leading venues, and with orchestras including the Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev. Her repertoire centres on Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin and Rachmaninoff, and critics have noted the restraint and structural clarity of her interpretations. She is regarded as one of the most closely watched pianists of the youngest generation.
