Biography (read more)
Sergei Gudelev is a Russian guitarist known for championing the overlooked classical guitar repertoire of his homeland. His programs draw on transcriptions of Russian composers such as Mikhail Glinka, alongside contemporary Russian works, offering audiences a repertoire of melodic warmth and harmonic colour distinct from the Spanish and Latin American music that dominates most recital programs.
Beyond his solo work, Gudelev performs in a chamber duo with domra player Victoria Aretinskaya, pairing the guitar with the traditional Russian round-bodied string instrument. He has also premiered new compositions, including Sergei Rudnev’s “Potpourri – Fantasia on Themes by P. I. Tchaikovsky.” By championing this national tradition, Gudelev widens the map of repertoire available to guitarists internationally.
