Miguel Ángel Ramírez Rincón was born on 30 December 1979 in Seville, Spain. He studied plucked instruments at the Manuel Castillo School of Music in Seville with Juan Carlos Rivera, graduating with top honors, then earned a master’s degree under Xavier Díaz-Latorre at ESMUC (the Conservatory of Catalonia) in Barcelona, followed by a further concert-performance master’s degree at the Zurich University of the Arts studying with Eduardo Egüez. He has attended masterclasses with Rolf Lislevand, Robert Barto, Paul O’Dette, and Hopkinson Smith, and received chamber-music coaching from Vittorio Ghielmi and Paolo Pandolfo, among others. Now based in Basel, Switzerland, he performs across the full range of early plucked instruments — Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque lute, Baroque guitar, vihuela, chitarrone, and archlute — with leading period-instrument ensembles and singers including Cecilia Bartoli, Philippe Jaroussky, Joyce DiDonato, and Nathalie Stutzmann’s Orfeo 55, and has released solo albums on Carpe Diem and Lindoro Records devoted to Bach, Renaissance lute repertoire, and Spanish Baroque guitar.
