Ildebrando D’Arcangelo was born on 14 December 1969 in Pescara, Italy. He began his musical education in 1985 at the Luisa D’Annunzio Conservatory in Pescara under Maria Vittoria Romano, later refining his technique in Bologna with Paride Venturi. He classifies his own voice as “basso cantabile” and has built a career centred on Mozart, Rossini, Verdi, and Bellini, appearing at La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, the Vienna State Opera, and the Salzburg Festival.

D’Arcangelo has collaborated with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, and Georg Solti, and is especially noted for his interpretations of Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Figaro. He released acclaimed solo recital albums of Handel (2009) and Mozart (2011) arias on Deutsche Grammophon, and in December 2014 he was awarded the Austrian title of Kammersänger in recognition of his standing as an international opera artist.
