Hila Karni is an Israeli cellist born in Tel Aviv who studied with Bernard Greenhouse and later with Prof. David Geringas in Lübeck and Berlin. She is solo cellist with the Hamburger Camerata and co-founded Trio Mondrian in 2006 with violinist Daniel Bard and pianist Ohad Ben-Ari, which won first prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Trieste and a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Scholarship.

Karni has performed at major venues including Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, and the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and taught chamber music at the Hamburg University for Music and Theater. Her Deutsche Grammophon-released recording with the SIGNUM Saxophone Quartet of a saxophone-and-cello arrangement of Max Richter’s ‘On the Nature of Daylight’ represents a classical-crossover project, but her core training and career (Greenhouse, Geringas, Trio Mondrian, major concert-hall recital work) confirm her as a legitimately trained classical cellist rather than a purely pop/film-music crossover artist.
