Freddie De Tommaso was born in 1993 in England to an Italian father and British mother. He trained at the Royal Academy of Music in London (graduating 2018) and joined the Opera Studio of the Bavarian State Opera after winning prizes at the 2018 Tenor Viñas International Singing Competition in Barcelona. In December 2021 he made his Royal Opera House debut as Cavaradossi in Tosca at age 28, becoming the youngest tenor to sing the role there and the first British singer in the part since 1963.

De Tommaso is regarded as one of the leading spinto tenors of his generation, hailed by critics as a potential heir to Caruso-style Italianate singing. His 2021 debut album Passione and 2022 follow-up Il Tenore both topped the UK classical charts, and he won the BBC Music Magazine Award for Best Newcomer in 2022. He is signed exclusively to Decca Classics (the first tenor on the label since 2007) and now appears regularly at houses including the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, and the Vienna State Opera.
