Albrecht Mayer is a German oboist born in 1965 who studied with Gerhard Scheuer, Georg Meerwein, Maurice Bourgue, and Ingo Goritzki. He became principal oboist of the Bamberg Symphony in 1990 before joining the Berlin Philharmonic as principal oboist in 1992, a position he has held ever since alongside an extensive solo and chamber music career.

Mayer is widely regarded as one of the leading oboists of his generation, recording extensively for Deutsche Grammophon with albums spanning Mozart-era repertoire with Claudio Abbado, French and Baroque programs, and collaborations with artists such as violinist Nigel Kennedy. His prolific solo discography and long Berlin Philharmonic tenure have made him one of the most recorded and recognizable oboists working today.
