Hugo Peretti and Luigi Creatore were American cousins, record producers, and songwriters who worked together for decades from New York’s Brill Building, producing hits for artists including Perry Como and Sam Cooke and later co-owning Roulette Records. George David Weiss was a prolific American songwriter and Juilliard-trained arranger who also wrote “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” and (with Bob Thiele) “What a Wonderful World.” The trio’s best-known collaboration is Elvis Presley’s ballad “Can’t Help Falling in Love” (1961), based on the melody of “Plaisir d’amour,” which became one of Presley’s signature songs.

“Can’t Help Falling in Love” has become one of the most covered songs in popular music history, performed at countless weddings and covered by artists across genres, cementing all three writers’ places in the Songwriters Hall of Fame tradition (Weiss inducted 1984).
