Avicii (Tim Bergling) was a Swedish DJ, record producer, and composer from Stockholm, credited with helping bring electronic dance music into the pop mainstream. His breakthrough single “Levels” (2011) and his genre-blending debut album True (2013), featuring the hit “Wake Me Up,” fused EDM with folk, soul, and country elements. He retired from touring in 2016 citing health issues and died by suicide in 2018 at age 28.
Avicii is widely regarded as one of the artists most responsible for EDM’s crossover into mainstream pop, influencing a generation of producers; his death sparked greater industry attention to mental health, memorialized through the Tim Bergling Foundation.
