The Police were an English rock trio formed in London in 1977, consisting of Sting (bass, lead vocals, principal songwriter), Andy Summers (guitar), and Stewart Copeland (drums). Emerging from the punk scene, they developed a distinctive fusion of new wave, reggae, and post-punk across albums such as Reggatta de Blanc (1979) and Synchronicity (1983), the latter selling over eight million copies in the US alone.

The Police were leaders of the “Second British Invasion” of the United States, sold over 75 million records worldwide, won six Grammy Awards, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.
