Jay Chou (born January 18, 1979) is a Taiwanese singer-songwriter, actor, and director widely regarded as the “King of Mandopop.” Debuting in 2000, he pioneered “Zhongguo feng” (Chinese-style music), blending R&B and hip-hop with traditional Chinese instrumentation and themes, across best-selling albums including Fantasy (2001) and Common Jasmine Orange (2004).

Chou is considered one of the most influential and commercially successful artists in the Chinese-speaking world, shaping Mandopop for over two decades and continuing to break sales records into the 2020s.
