Green Day is an American punk rock band formed in 1987 in Rodeo, California, consisting of Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals, guitar), Mike Dirnt (bass), and Tré Cool (drums, since 1990). Their breakthrough album “Dookie” (1994) brought punk rock to the mainstream, and the band later expanded into ambitious concept territory with the rock opera “American Idiot” (2004) and its follow-up “21st Century Breakdown” (2009). Notable songs include “Basket Case,” “Longview,” “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” and “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).”

Credited with reigniting mainstream interest in punk rock, Green Day has sold roughly 75 million records worldwide, won five Grammy Awards, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.
