George Michael was a British singer-songwriter and record producer, born in East Finchley, London, who first found fame as half of the pop duo Wham! before launching a hugely successful solo career. His solo album “Faith” (1987) won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year and sold over 25 million copies worldwide, and he continued with acclaimed releases including “Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1” (1990) and “Older” (1996). Signature songs include “Careless Whisper,” “Faith,” “Freedom! ’90,” and “Outside.”

One of the best-selling recording artists of all time and an influential LGBTQ rights advocate and HIV/AIDS fundraiser, Michael was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2023 and was named the most-played artist on British radio between 1984 and 2004.
