Grover Washington Jr. was an American saxophonist and a pioneer of smooth jazz and jazz-funk, known for albums such as “Mister Magic” (1974), “Feels So Good” (1975), and the Grammy-winning “Winelight” (1980). Bill Withers was an American soul and R&B singer-songwriter celebrated for classics such as “Ain’t No Sunshine” and “Lean on Me.” Together they recorded “Just the Two of Us” (1980/1981), written by Withers with Ralph MacDonald and William Salter, which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Song.

“Just the Two of Us” became a genre-defining smooth jazz/R&B crossover hit and remains widely sampled and covered decades later, cementing both artists’ legacies; Washington was inducted into multiple music halls of fame, and Withers was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.
