Vicente Asencio y Ruano (1908–1979) was a Spanish (Valencian) composer best known for his works for guitar, several of which were championed by guitarists Andrés Segovia and Narciso Yepes. His guitar suite Collectici Íntim (“Intimate Collection”) is among his most performed works, its movements including “La Joia” (Joy).
Asencio’s guitar music, rooted in Valencian and broader Spanish idiom, occupies an important place in the mid-20th-century Spanish guitar repertoire alongside contemporaries such as Rodrigo and Torroba.
